To be Misunderstood is to be Great

That's what Einstein said, and I quote...

To be unknown is to be the tree in the forest.

But, do trees have ears?

And, does anyone care?

The best art of our age is now being discovered. The pendulum has swung back to a time when craft, creativity and passion were more greatly appreciated. Abstract conceptualism is no longer being celebrated with the same fanfare. Current art enthusiasts are demanding tangible thoughts that are grounded in real ideas that are time-tested and traditional.

Summer's End

As the warm winds of summer grow cool and onto fall,
I'm reminded that nothing but nothing lasts forever at all.
But, the sun, the sea and the memory.

Sounds of surf on the shore echo the rhythms of my heart.
How many waves in a day? How many days in lifetime?

I'm always saddened by the end of summer even if I don't have to go back to school in the fall. The change of season reminds me of how important time--the dash between the birth and death dates that define our lives--is.

The recent death of Bruce Ackerman, a beloved friend in the San Fernando Valley and CEO of the Valley Economic Alliance, was an organized civic leader who made the most of his moments. Because of his management of "the dash," he was able to touch more lives than the average person ever considers.

For time is the only commodity we all share the same of each day.

Good art takes time. Great art is timeless.

How long did that painting take? I'm never sure exactly how to answer that question. Do the research, planning, and drawings count? Do the hours I may have looked and thought and considered my approach to the painting count? Or, do I just count the actual time my brush touched the canvas?

Do the minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, and sometimes years, make a work more valued? When Bruce Springsteen sings live at a concert and is paid somewhere in the area of $10,000 per second, is he getting paid for each second of the performance? When Michael Jordan received the first multi-million dollar contract from a basketball team, was it warranted? How much is a person's time worth?

The Big Easy

In fall 2008, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger gifted a retired American flag from the U.S. Capitol to create the artwork, "I WANT YOU to Honor a Hero, Hire a Vet!"

ARTZworks.com Artist David SchwARTZ and his wife, Tammy, were honored to present this work at the National Apartment Association convention in New Orleans in June. Hundreds of people attended and learned about the challenges veterans are facing as they transition back into the workforce.
